Denmark: The Wedding

From Watching The Cosby Show to Becoming a Wife in Denmark

It’s a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning on the island of Ærø, Denmark… and TJ is about to get hitched.

Just us, a ferry ride, and a transatlantic love story years in the making.

what family means to me

Growing up, The Cosby Show was a staple in my childhood. From the beautiful Black representation, to the natural hair, to the loving family dynamic — I adored all of it.

But one thing stood out to me more than anything else: Everyone in the Huxtable family had the same last name, but that wasn’t the case in my family.

“Huxtable residence.”

That one phrase shaped how I viewed family growing up.

It represented unity, a family team — a household built on love, laughter, learning, and sticking together through disagreements. Even as a little girl, I knew that was what I wanted one day. Fast forward 20-something years later, and wow… we’re getting there. One year married to the best person I know, sharing the same last name, building our own little family unit — the kind I used to dream about while watching TV on the couch as a kid.

Life is funny like that.

why we got married in denmark

If you’ve ever dealt with German bureaucracy, you already know where this story is going.

After realizing how complicated the process would be in Germany (I needed to confirm my birth certificate was real by flying to Egypt to have a notary stamp it, then head to Frankfurt for another confimation of the Egpytian confirmation by the Egyptian embassy – missssssss me with the BS Germany), we did what many international couples before us have done: we packed our bags and headed to Denmark — the unofficial wedding capital of Europe. The European Vegas, so to speak.

And thankfully, the process was incredibly simple:

  • Fill out a form
  • Pay a fee
  • Receive confirmation
  • Choose the city for the ceremony
  • Apply for your wedding date

And just like that, we were set to get married.

What we wore ❤️

Five Minutes Later… Married!

The ceremony itself took about five minutes. Witnesses were provided, so we didn’t have to bring anyone with us. And just like that, on June 21st, 2025, we were officially married.

Let’s Get Married by Jagged Edge
on repeatttttttttt

Our small Danish wedding may have been simple, but it was deeply meaningful. We later had our German wedding celebration in September of 2025, and next up is Minnesota. Let’s see if the Americans can top Denmark.

(We’re currently at 2 out of 3 weddings completed 😂)

Stay tuned.

In true American fashion, we headed to a baseball game with our friends after the ceremony. They welcomed us with confetti, mini fireworks, and a lot of love.

Little Tina watching The Cosby Show could never have imagined that one day she’d take a ferry to a tiny Danish island to marry the love of her life, Broncosorious.

But somehow, God brought me exactly where I was meant to be.
