Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
At the core of everything I do is the younger version of myself: the little girl who valued love, honesty, and meaningful relationships. The ambitious, stubborn sixth grader who was determined to change her environment. She needed representation, support, and love.
I am here to show you guys how I gave myself what I needed and how I did the damn thang.
my background
how it all started
I like to believe that I have a complex background, and here’s why.
I was born in Cairo, Egypt, but my parents are originally from South Sudan. When I was two years old, my family moved from Africa to the United States. We have lived in California, Iowa, and my personal favorite, Minnesota! Throughout my adult life, I often questioned the source of my passion for international affairs and different cultures. Now, I believe it stemmed from my diverse background and immersion in various experiences.

my transition to germany
Fast forward to my junior year of college in 2014, and all I could think about was studying abroad. I felt somewhat apprehensive about being away for an extended period, so I chose a month-long summer trip to Paris, Strasbourg, and Berlin. Little did I know then that I would fall in love with Berlin and eventually live there for three and a half years.
After my trip abroad, I returned to Minneapolis, and a year later, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Business. I knew I wanted to go abroad again, but I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. After discussing it with an advisor, I learned that pursuing a master’s program was my best option at that time. I conducted my research, planned my move, and set my sights on traveling to Heidelberg, Germany, in July 2015. Unfortunately, my plans didn’t work out for various reasons. While I was quite disappointed, I decided that working in corporate America would be my next step.
I ended up working as an Enrollment Support Representative at Capella University. I stayed there for about a year and saved enough money to move to Berlin. I had an incredible support system that truly helped make my dream a reality. If you want to read more about my transition to Berlin, click here.
